Who We Are

AAAWE is the first and only organization that focuses on building the capacity and skills of African women economists.

AAAWE is a non-profit international professional association and was established in March 2012. AAAWE aims to increase the number of African women economists at all levels in academia, business and government by:

  • promoting equal opportunity
  • creating opportunities to enhance the capacity and skills of African women economists
  • supporting entry into the profession
  • and promoting the career advancement of African women economists.

To achieve these objectives, AAAWE creates opportunities for networking and mentoring, assists members in obtaining grants, fellowships and internships, and facilitates the creation and sharing of knowledge among members.

Any individual interested in the advancement of African women economists may join the Association; membership is open to everyone. Members are drawn from academia, business, government, think tanks, international organizations and non-governmental organizations. For information about how to join, please go the Membership page.
